I LOVE SHOPPING!
I could happily shop every day buying things for me, my children, my husband and my home. I’m not even particularly fussy about where to shop and am just as comfortable spending money in a clothes shop as I am in Bunning’s.
Not being able to shop properly for over 6 months is my excuse for my spending these days. A couple of years ago my husband and I experienced some financial issues which saw us living on a pretty tight budget for a few months. This didn’t affect me quite as much as I thought it would, however things were tight. We weren’t going out or socialising due to money, but this meant I didn’t need something new to wear to everything.
Splurging took on a whole new meaning with the luxury of buying chocolate becoming a real treat in the weekly shop. Funny how things change though and now I am working and we’ve managed to get through our own mini financial crisis, it’s business as usual.
Recently, I was due to go out with the girls and wanted a nice dress to wear. My old dresses were , well, old and I wanted to treat myself. I came back from the shops with two different dresses and added them to my wardrobe, where I found another bag with a sweater dress I had purchased 2 weeks ago and not yet worn. This made me feel slightly nauseous especially given the above situation. So I’ve made a decision, no more shopping now until next season (apart from the skinny black jeans I already promised myself).

- Leave your credit card at home take cash only when you have to visit the shops.
- Use your online banking app to check your balance before you buy.
- Ok if you have to have it make sure it matches something you already have.
- Show your partner or housemate everything you buy before you get out of control.
- Regularly clear out your wardrobe - not so you can fit more in but so that you understand what suits you so you stop buying bad clothes.
- Consider your lifestyle - if you no longer need to go to the office you dont need that handbag in 3 colours each with matching shoes!
